Surfair provides regional flights across the US, cutting travel time and eliminating flying hassles. They also offer on-demand charters, letting you book and personalize private jet flights easily. Their mission is to revolutionize regional flying with electrification.
Design System
Flight search revamped
Incorporating both scheduled and on-demand services without cluttering the interface was tricky. The search suggestions were bloated, making it hard for users to find what they needed. Plus, certain components weren’t optimized for mobile.
To solve these, I designed a UI that displays both service types and allows users to switch between them. I created a clean, intuitive interface where users can filter out airports or cities. The search experience was improved with smarter suggestions. Additionally, I enhanced the date selection component, especially important on mobile devices.
Evolution in private jet searches
I had major challenges with unclear pricing per aircraft model and a complete lack of information about the aircraft themselves.
To tackle these, we categorized aircrafts into classes to optimize logistics and profitability. This not only made pricing clearer but also provided transparency about which aircraft are available at specific airports. Additionally, I included a dedicated full-view for each class, making it super easy for users to find the perfect jet.
Simple Checkout Experience
One major problem was the potential for information overload. I had to meticulously organize the content so users wouldn't feel bombarded. Another hurdle was integrating the voucher and payment systems smoothly with passenger management. It was crucial to ensure that these processes were seamless and didn't disrupt the user experience.
I broke things down step-by-step. For those extra services, users have quick options or can add custom notes. We decided to apply vouchers by default, so that's one less decision for the user. The payment only shows up if there aren't enough credits. Super simple.
My Account Hub
This is the place where users can easily see their next flight, recurring and scheduled passes, as well as their on-demand credit balance. Plus, there’s a quick summary of saved passengers for fast insights. This way, everything important is right there, making it super easy for them to stay on top of things.
I have worked with Mateusz for over a year, and he’s one of the best UX-focused designers I’ve worked with. He is highly organized and creates designs that are well-suited to development - highly regular with the right number of variants to cover all use cases. Matz’ designs are attractive and clear, and he puts a lot of thought into how different kinds of users will experience the design. He will stand his ground on important structural and UX constraints, but he is responsive to change requests and doesn’t hold his current design as “precious.” He’s a strong communicator and all around great guy. I highly recommend him.
